Lately, something has been settling.
Not in a dramatic way. Not all at once.
But steadily. Bit by bit.
I’m in a new home now my own space, my own place to be me. The kind of place that makes room for quiet just because. And while the change itself is real, what’s been catching my attention isn’t the change of where I lay my head at night. It’s when the ease arrives.
This morning,I closed the door behind me and stepped into the cold light of day. The air was crisp, clear. I noticed the feeling before I named it.
”This is lovely”.
The thought arrived easily and without comparison. It didn’t wait for confirmation. It didn’t ask to be justified. It just was.
A little later, crossing the street along Belfast Lough, the feeling was still there. It didn’t change or alter as the view opened before my eyes. It, my feelings, didn’t need the scenery to “feel good”. I had assumed the environment would be the reason for my ease. It wasn’t.That surprised me
There was no sense of arrival. No finish line to cross. It just continued.
Later, in the shower I sang as you do, to the same music I used to play in South Florida. Same rhythm. Same words. The walls were different. The climate certainly was. But the room felt like mine. The familiarity didn’t stop at the change in place. It arrived as it always had, without checking where it was supposed to belong. Beat, by beat.
What struck me wasn’t nostalgia. It was timing.
The feeling showed up before I noticed the contrast. The realization that I was here, in Northern Ireland and not Florida. Same feeling.
Afterward, I reached for body lotion. There was no rush. The care was deliberate. The pace mattered. Step by step. Something settled in me internally as the care stayed unhurried. Not because it was luxurious. Not because it was special. Simply because it wasn’t rushed.
Nothing dramatic happened. Nothing needed fixing.
Across these moments, the same thing kept appearing quietly, without announcement or warning. It was a state of mind, an internal recognition that I didn’t need to explain. It simply was, a sense of ease that didn’t depend on the weather, the view, the location, or the routine being new or impressive.
I missed it before because I was always in motion. Never stopping. Never taking the time to pause.
Once I might have labeled these thoughts and feelings as restlessness, or distraction, or the sense that something was off. Now they revealed themselves differently when I stopped assigning meaning too quickly. The discomfort I thought I was meant to resolve wasn’t asking for resolution at all. It was asking to be seen.
Nothing was wrong. Something was visible.
And once brought to the surface, it didn’t ask for to be explained or further discussed.
It didn’t need to be added to my “to do list”. It just was there. Acceptance.
It simply settled the way things do when they no longer need to prove they belong.

It is so lovely to read this and I am so glad you got to slow down enough to actually enjoy and embrace the peace that Northern Ireland seems to offer to so many of us 🍀
